Better

MarkTheseWords will provide a few paragraphs of advice (compared to a few words which your teacher might write)

Here is a real essay and some real feedback:

"Your essay demonstrates a solid understanding of Macbeth's psychological turmoil and the context of the Jacobean era. You effectively explore key ideas around guilt, paranoia, and the consequences of ambition. However, there are areas where clarity, coherence, and grammar could be improved to enhance your argument and its delivery.

AO1 (8/12 marks): You provide a clear and explained response, focusing on Macbeth's feelings and the implications of his actions. Your references, such as “O, full of scorpions is my mind,” support your interpretation well. However, some points could be developed further to fully explore the text, and occasionally, the analysis feels fragmented. Make sure you integrate your references smoothly into your argument to strengthen your analysis.

AO2 (7/12 marks): You identify writer's methods and begin to analyze their effects, particularly with the use of exclamations and figurative language. However, the terminology could be applied more consistently and accurately. More detailed exploration of the effects of language on the audience would elevate your analysis.

AO3 (5/6 marks): You show a good understanding of the context, particularly relating it to the Jacobean audience and the social order. You connect the themes in the text to historical events like the Gunpowder Plot which is insightful. Continue to strengthen this by making more explicit connections between the text and the broader social implications.

Overall, you have a strong essay with insightful points, but keep working on clarity and coherence in your writing. Here are some specific recommendations for improvement:

- Proofread your essays for spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors to enhance clarity and professionalism. Consider reading your essay out loud to catch mistakes.
- Integrate quotations more fluidly into your analysis to support your points without interrupting the flow of your argument.
- Expand on your ideas: While you have some strong interpretations, try to delve deeper into each point to offer a more comprehensive analysis.

Why this app?

My son came home frustrated with a very low mark on his Frankenstein homework, but his teacher had not told him how to improve it. He re-typed the whole essay into ChatGPT and said he got "the most useful feedback I'd ever received".Teachers don't have time to write more than a few words to help you improve. AI can do this very well, and very quickly. So I built an app for that: MarkTheseWordsMarkTheseWords knows what the GCSE examiners are looking for (just like your teacher does) and can provide very focussed feedback for you in a few seconds (which your teacher can't do).You could of course just re-type your essay into ChatGPT yourself, but my app has built-in handwriting recognition (using Azure DocumentAI, if you are wondering) and has access to a premium version of ChatGPT (currently it uses 4o-mini, if you are wondering, but that changes all the time).

Basic

Basic app allows you to scan and submit five essays for feedback.
